The central idea of this collection is beauty—capturing and reflecting beauty. My mother is the source of this inspiration. It’s about seeing beauty in everything—as a mother sees her child, and a child sees his mother. Light and shadow, contrasts, good and bad—perfectly imperfect, yet beautiful.

The quest was to create a timeless image—something enduring, classic, and free from trends. A pleasing image that draws the viewer into the emotional state of the scene subtly, without relying on forced optical tricks or overpowering effects.

The Vision Behind SUÁREZ

Image Development

We began with the excellent Canon Sumire as our foundation, then spent nearly a year studying classic and vintage optics in the projector room. Taking notes on what we loved, we meticulously developed SUÁREZ with precision and care.

To craft a beauty-focused, cosmetic lens, we:

– Reduced acutance and contrast to the limit—without sacrificing resolution.

– Enhanced color presence and warmth at the diffusion point of line pairs, producing more even and glowing skin tones.

– Maintained a moderate focus roll-off that is creamy and produces a pleasant separation.

– Preserved halation, allowing it to complement the unique bokeh we achieved.

-Controlled distortion, to keep the image free from optical effects that compromise the set’s intent.

About The Journey

Creating lenses has been a deeply personal journey—filled with trials, errors, and beautiful moments, much like life itself. Though I launched LVX just two years ago, this project has been years in the making.

LVX is the Latin word for light—a cornerstone of my life. Not only does light shape my work as a filmmaker, but I also strive to seek and share the light of truth, service, and love as a human being.

For many years, I battled addiction. LVX, like so much of what I do now, stands as a testament to my triumph over those years of darkness.

Purpose and Meaning

Now, I’m taking LVX in an even more personal direction. I no longer want to simply make lenses—many already do that, and many do it well. For me, it’s about purpose and meaning. I want these lenses to signify something—not just to capture light beautifully, but to reveal it, to embody it.

SUÁREZ is a lens collection I’ve dedicated to my mother—a strong, beautiful woman who taught me how to be a good man. Despite my flaws, she showed me how to remain a decent human being. Today, I honor her with this collection, bearing her last name as both a reminder and a duty.

Inspired by this legacy, LVX Badalamenti Cinema Optics takes its next creative and social leap with the launch of the SUÁREZ optical collection.

These are more than lenses. The SUÁREZ project is inflamed with soul—one nourished by humanism and a clear philanthropic mission.

Social Impact

That’s why 50% of the profits from this collection will go to Nova Vita, an organization that provides food, care, and dignity to babies born in Santa Teresita, a women’s prison in Guatemala City.

There, children of incarcerated women are born and raised until the age of four—only to be separated from their mothers and handed over, if they’re lucky, to a relative. If not, to a state orphanage.

These children enter the world under inhumane conditions: no government funding for basic needs, no early stimulation, and no proper facilities for their development.
